There is an interesting background to the Cambodia casinos that sit just across the border from next door Thailand, in which casino betting is banned. Eight casinos are based in a generally small area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia casinos is in a perfect destination, a three to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The astonishing income gained from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million, and there are a couple of limitations constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mostly Thai; still, financing sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and though visas are supposedly needed to pass, there are methods around this, as is real of many borders.

The original Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just 1 gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary bateau gambling hall, highlights one hundred and fifty slot machines and sixty gaming tables. The Naga gambling den is open all day and night with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of chemin de fer, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon followed. A total of 150 slots and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slots and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and 66 of the familiar table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an international vacation and hotel building that contains many amenities accompanying the gambling den, which offers 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machines and 88 tables.
